FAQs
Who is the InvestmentPlus Series within GIF Select appropriate for?
InvestmentPlus is an attractive option for clients seeking flexibility, the growth potential of leading investment funds, plus the basic protection of a segregated fund contract – all at a low cost. InvestmentPlus is also an attractive option for small business owners who are looking for potential creditor protection, to help protect their personal assets from professional liabilities.
What are some of the basic protection features of the InvestmentPlus Series within the GIF Select segregated fund contract?
75% maturity guarantee of all deposits at age 100.
75% death benefit guarantee of all deposits at death.
Potential for creditor protection of assets
Ability to bypass probate and avoid the costs associated with probate
What are the benefits of bypassing probate?
GIF Select InvestmentPlus contracts offer the ability to name a beneficiary (ies). When a beneficiary other than your estate is named, the proceeds of the contract bypass your estate, and therefore probate, and are paid promptly, privately and directly to the designated beneficiary(ies).* Bypassing probate can also result in substantial savings by avoiding the costs of probate fees. Talk to your advisor for more information.
Can I invest in InvestmentPlus and other Series within GIF Select or move my InvestmentPlus funds into a different Series with GIF Select?
Yes, you can hold multiple series within the same GIF Select contract. When moving to a new Series i.e. from InvestmentPlus to IncomePlus or EstatePlus, new product information, forms and signatures are required. Talk to your advisor for more information.
*In Saskatchewan, jointly held property and insurance policies with a named beneficiary are included on the application for probate but they do not flow through the estate and are not subject to probate fees.
The Manufacturers Life Insurance Company is the issuer of the Manulife GIF Select insurance contract which offers the IncomePlus, InvestmentPlus and EstatePlus Series and the guarantor of any guarantee provisions therein. Any amount that is allocated to a segregated fund is invested at the risk of the contract holder and may increase or decrease in value.
